Which brings us back to AB976--and to some potentially very good news! Sponsored by San Diego Democrat and Assembly Majority Leader Toni Atkins, this bill proposes to allow the Coastal Commission to levy fines (potentially upwards of $1,000 per day) directly against violators. The bill has already passed the Assembly and is making its way through the Senate committees. It should reach the floor any day now.Considering only the über wealthy can afford to live on the coast, $1,000 a day doesn't seem like such a big deal.
The article goes on to mention that there is a backlog of over 1800 violations. These violations are submitted to the Attorney General for litigation. The fact that the CCC can't get the Attorney General to act on all of these should tell you that they see NO MERIT in the cases.
And think about it. EIGHTEEN HUNDRED supposed violations. What the hell does the CCC think it is? And violations of....what??
