New York Loses $400 Million After Imposing The Nation’s Highest Cigarette Tax

And NYC thought they were taking the high road.  All they did was push the whole cigarette economy underground.  Do you blame the smoker?
Smokers responded to higher prices not by shelling out more cash at the store but by turning to the black market, crossing state lines and buying cheaper brands, such as Seneca, from Native American outlets. The last 10 years have a been a boon to organized crime, with 58 percent of New York’s cigarettes supplied from out-of-state, according to the Tax Foundation. The number of packs bought paying the full tax has also collapsed by 62 percent.
62 per cent!  And NYC hasn't seen the errors of their ways?  As usual, it's leftist gone wild.
