Proposal could put NY farmers out of business

Thanks for nothing, CA.
The answer is obvious. Unfortunately, not everyone got the memo. Assemblywoman Linda Rosenthal, D-Manhattan, has introduced legislation to ban common and accepted farming practices. It could drive many New York farmers out of state - or out of business. Assembly Bill 424 would eliminate the use of maternity pens to safely house pregnant pigs and would ban common cages used to house hens. These regulations come not at the request of farmers, but animal rights activists who want to radically overhaul food production by taking animals out of it. This is just their first step.

The bill mimics the 2008 Proposition 2 ballot initiative in California. University of California-Davis researchers found that ''the expected impact would be the almost complete elimination of egg production in California'' in a matter of a few years.
