It would all be so funny if it weren't so tragic. Wow! What a deal! Government controlled health insurance will be cheaper!
Well, ladies and gents, enjoy it while you can. Because this is the beginning of the end. Ulitmately, it is foolish to think that Obamacare will go on to rise above the other entitlements and be the Shining City on the Hill; that through the love and nurture of a caring and compassionate government, we will live healthy and long long lives.
And how can I prognosticate such a thing?
Because it's like shooting fish in a barrel. It's just too easy.
I have history on my side.
Let's look at the Income Tax:
The original income tax was obviously not meant to be paid by most citizens, nor were rates high enough to significantly undermine the spirit of enterprise. For example, under this system single taxpayers today would pay no tax on any earnings up to almost $45,000 and married couples on earnings up to almost $60,000. A one percent tax rate would be in effect on incomes up to about $300,000. The top rate of 7 percent would not take hold until earnings hit almost $7.5 million.
As for the corporate income tax, it was imposed in 1909 at a rate of one percent and included a $5,000 exemption. Again, translated into 1994 dollars, companies would face the one percent rate with an exemption of $81,967.
Look where we are now!
Let's look at entitlements:
There is NO SUCH THING as an entitlement costing less or growing smaller:
As Americans opt to reward themselves ever more lavishly with entitlement benefits, the question of how to pay for these government transfers inescapably comes to the fore. Citizens have become ever more broad-minded about the propriety of tapping new sources of finance for supporting their appetite for more entitlements. The taker mentality has thus ineluctably gravitated toward taking from a pool of citizens who can offer no resistance to such schemes: the unborn descendants of today's entitlement-seeking population.Great graph showing the growth in entitlement transfers over the decades:
Brothers and Sisters, Obamcare is an ENTITLEMENT. In fact, we could call it the Ultimate Entitlement. So...let's add to this to see what we are really looking at:
Trying to extrapolate is for certain dicey. In engineering, we take a French Curve and lay it on a known graph to extrapolate. The graph can be used in a limited fashion. Admittedly, it's sloppy but the idea it conveys is very serious.
We choose to condemn our children to a life of poverty and suppression. Do we think they will take this lying down? I smell rebellion in our future. Like all things wrought by government, Obamacare is doomed.
